Agenda: Weekly Peaceable Assembly

We currently gather on Tuesdays from 6:30 - 7:30 pm from three venues connected by webcam.

Our current public venues are:

  • Greene County Public Library, Xenia, OH - Contact Anita Lewis if you are physically attending at this venue.
  • Union Township Public Library (Eastgate), Cincinnati, OH - Contact Jonathan Berchtold if you are physically attending this venue
  • Wilmington Public Library, Wilmington, OH - Contact Chuck Watts if you are physically attending this venue. 

At 6:00 p.m., we open our formal agenda with the

Caring Citizen Declaration

I am a caring citizen of the United States of America.

I occupy compassion.

I here highly resolve that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -

and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth.

I am a person with human rights. 

I care for my own Safety and Happiness and that of others.

I am the solution to expanding life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. 

And for the support of this declaration, joining caring citizens known and unknown, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.

Discussion Process

We discuss something written by George Lakoff or Joe Brewer, our cognitive science consultants, using the following process:

  • Short presentation of discussion material if someone has not read the material.
  • Everyone is given an opportunity to share a word or phrase, without commentary, that comes to mind concerning the material. Participants may pass.
  • Everyone is given an opportunity to share how their feeling, without commentary, that comes to mind concerning the material and/or process. Participants may pass.
  • Everyone is then given three minutes of uninterrupted time to get on their soapbox and tell us what they think of the material presented. Participants may pass. 
  • After everyone has had their three minutes, followup free discussion follows for no more than five minutes.

Reporting Process

At 6:30 p.m., we report or plan on how we will implement our identified caring policy directions. Currently, our only policy direction is Healthcare Human Rights. This time could be used to identify other caring policy directions we want to try and implement.

At 7:00 p.m., we adjourn by reciting our

Four Empathic Activities

We are a community of practice. We will occupy compassion every day by practicing Four Empathic Activities: 

  • We will inwardly digest and use the values of empathy and responsibility to self and others in daily conversation “in order to form a more perfect Union.”
  • We will invest in our peaceable assemblies and weekly pledge “our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor” to identify caring policy directions.
  • We will invite our neighbors and public officials to join us for the sake of freedom and human dignity now and forever.
